Its flipping pancake day!
Britain flips pancakes while it seems the rest of the world parties in the street for Carnival, but do you know the origins of Mardi Gras (or Fat Tuesday / Shrove Tuesday) are the same?

Where is the most romantic place to spend St Valentine’s day?
Every February 14th (and the nearest weekend to it) the villagers of St Valentin, deep in the heart of Champagne Berrichonne in France, celebrate love and romance by decking their homes in blooms. There are free concerts in the Lovers’ Garden to serenade courting couples and you can even tie the knot there if you feel so inclined!

Nothing like a little (a lot of never-ending) rain to turn things green.

I posted this last Spring. And since there was never-ending rain last night, in January, I thought I would repost over here. January is a month, when, for better or worse, it has always seemed that it did not snow much because it was TOO COLD to snow. The sky has always been so crisp - as if not a single particle of anything could exist in the air. It feels, as your nostrils freeze, that you can see straight into the pits of the sky. Last night, however, we we fell asleep to the droning pitter patter of huge raindrops. We were lucky to be home though. We very very barely made it up the mountain after work. We got about 100 feet up and realized our car would not go up and would not go down without spinning. The slick rain was freezing instantly. We had the incredibly fortune to have Kurt, Townshend’s very amazing road foremen, in the town’s very largest truck, behind us. He drove right to our tail, while we prayed for our brakes not to fall into his truck, and poured gravel which allowed us to reverse back down without sliding into the trees. At any rate. All a diversion to appreciate the way weather patterns make the heart beat differently in different seasons. Especially on a mountain. Especially on a farm.
